Doula Questions

Q. How do I verify a doula in training or certified doula?

Q. How frequent is your doula list updated?

A. We update both lists after each cohort graduation. 

Q. Do you know which companies have doula benefits?

Q. How frequent is your companies list updated?

A. We review and update both lists monthly pending there are updates to be made

Only doulas who have enrolled in and or taken an AAVE Doula training will be listed in the above registries. AAVE cannot verify external doulas skills, knowledge or training. Also, AAVE Doula is only listing companies and MCO's (insurance) as a resource. It is the doulas sole responsibility to research these companies, their policies, rates, legal information, etc. AAVE Doula does not take any responsibility for what is shared from or between doulas and the listed companies.

Training Questions

Q. Can I enroll into a training at any time?

A. No, our trainings are only open during certain times of the year to ensure we give the right amount of time and attention to each cohort in each training.

Q. Can any teen enroll into the Teen4Teen training?

​

A. Yes, currently all New Jersey teens are welcome to apply during open enrollment for the Teen4Teen Peer Doula training. You must be 13 - 19 in high school to apply for this training.

Q. Will I learn about sex in the Teen4Teen training?

​

A. Considering the curriculum is based on preconception, pregnancy and postpartum we will have open discussions around sex. Please do not enroll if this topic is off limits.

Q. Are your trainings online?

​

A. Partially, our trainings are hybrid which is a combination of in-person and on-line. The Medicaid & Business training is 100% in-person as it's only a 1 day session. 

Q. Will a person be certified at the end of the training?

​

A. Yes, the goal is to have all trainees 100% certified upon successful completion of the courses. This excludes the Medicaid & Business training. 

Q. Where would doulas complete their mentorship?

​​

A. All doulas who have successfully completed our trainings will receive mentorship through our community partner Nurturing BayBees excluding Medicaid & Business.

Q. Do you have other trainings?

​

A. Currently, AAVE Doula only provides 4 types of training under our organization which are shown in the drop-down under the "our trainings" tab.

Q. What if I am 18 or 19 and want to enroll in another training?

​

A. As long as you have successfully completed high school, you may enroll into other doula trainings. Teen4Teen Peer Doula training is designed for students in high school.

Q. Is the Teen4Teen training online?

​

A. The Teen4Teen Peer Doula training is a hybrid training. This means it's both online and in-person. The in-person portion is for CPR, and other topics that require hands-on learning.

Q. How much are your trainings?

​

A. We aim to have all trainings 100% free. However, there may be additional costs to the trainees for Postpartum training or anything obtained outside of our AAVE trainings.

Q. Will AAVE help doulas enroll into Medicaid?

​​

A. Yes, our trainings are designed for doulas to be fully enrolled with Medicaid and at a minimum have applied with all NJ MCO's by their graduation date.

Q. What happens if a doula is unable to complete training?

​​

A. A doula can re-enroll into another training only ONCE which is subject administrative approval pending how the doula exited the training and their performance during the training.

Family Questions

Q. I am pregnant and want to use one of your doulas?

​

A. Our doula registries are listed at the top of this page. You can contact any of those doulas excluding Doulas in Training as they have not finished the training.

Q. Are the doulas free?

​

A. We do not control or monitor the cost of the listed doulas. We can only confirm all Certified Doulas are Medicaid approved. To inquire about cost, please contact the doula in your area.

Directory Questions

Q. Where can I find more doulas?

​

A. We have established a doula directory with both Trained & Certified Doulas at www.doulacentral.org. There you can contact any of the listed doulas for more information. Please note, we cannot confirm the training or knowledge of the doulas listed on the Doula Central directory. We can only confirm the training and knowledge of AAVE Doulas listed above.

Medicaid & MCO Questions

Q. Does AAVE help doulas become enrolled in Medicaid?

​

A. Yes, we help doulas with Medicaid enrollment only through our trainings. If a doula has already taken an external doula training they can sign up for our Medicaid & Business training.

Q. Does AAVE help doulas with MCO enrollment?

​

A. Yes, we help doulas with limited MCO enrollment only through our trainings including Medicaid & Business training. We only walk through MCO applications, not complete them.

Q. What if a doula only wants the business training?

​

A. Anyone who enrolls into our Medicaid & Business training must attend the whole session. We will not allow anyone to come into the training at random times to avoid interruptions.

Q. Does AAVE submit claims for doulas?

​

A. We plan to provide billing and claim assistance to NJ Medicaid Doulas in the coming months. Eventually we will open up billing services to all doulas on the East Coast.
