The Perinatal Community Health Leader training is a full spectrum training covering the following specialties:
Birth Doula
Postpartum Doula
Childbirth Educator​
Lactation Peer Educator
Community Health Worker
Mental Health First Aider
Our AAVE Perinatal Community Health Leader training is designed to educate and certify passionate individuals in 6 leading perinatal focused careers. Upon successful completion of this training, AAVE PCHL's will be well versed in birth and postpartum care for the family, health-promotion, lactation management, the birthing process, and mental health regardless of the families they serve.
AAVE PCHL training also provides an intro to the Perinatal Community Health Worker role.

How long is the training?
The PCHL training is 14 weeks which is approximately 3 1/2 months.​​​​

How long is mentorship?
The PCHL mentorship varies per pathway. For the transitional pathway mentorship is up 2 months. For the employment pathway mentorship is up to 6 months.​​​​
When does the training open?
The PCHL training is only available twice a year and is currently closed for 2025!​
Who is eligible to apply?
All individuals passionate about maternal and child health are eligible to apply including those on unemployment. Trainees on employment should consult with their career advisor before enrolling into this training.
